McGinlay Bell are currently working on The Tontine Building which is situated within the Merchant City Conservation area of Glasgow City Centre. Collaborating with London architects dMFK, the 10,000 sqm project will be split into two phases of development.
As part of a city block The Tontine Buildings is an ensemble of B-listed blocks dating from 1905-1930. Our current proposals unlock the potential for the Tontine Building development not only as a place of work but a place of connection, interaction, collaboration, productivity, and culture.
The proposals seek to embody the historical significance of the site and to redefine this important edge of the city. The scheme includes responsible retrofit, and the essence of the project is also to integrate and enhance access by use of the lanes and courtyards within the building creating a better sense of place.
